Definition of Scientific Notation

Scientific Notation: Scientific notation is a way of representing very large or very small numbers. In scientific notation, a number is written as a product of two factors: a coefficient and a power of 10. The coefficient is a number between 1 and 10 that multiplies the power of 10. The power of 10 is the number that tells you how many places to move the decimal point in order to get the original number. For example, 1,000,000 can be written as 1×106 and 0.000001 can be written as 1×10-6.
